Victoria first joined the Horse & Hound editorial team in 2018 as chief sub-editor, having worked as digital assistant editor previously for another national equestrian title. As the chief sub-editor, Victoria is responsible for managing the magazine’s savvy team of sub-editors, who edit and fact-check all the content in each issue, ensuring it is in house style and meets H&H’s tone of voice. She also makes sure the magazine goes to press on time each week – so you can rest easy knowing your copy of H&H will land on your doorstep every Thursday!
Since joining the Horse & Hound team, Victoria has worked over all the busy press days, from the Badmintons and Burghleys to the night shifts of the World and Olympic Games – a 4am finish (having started at 9am the day before) to put the Tryon World Equestrian Games special issue to press following Hurricane Florence was a record!
Victoria grew up attending her local riding school, learning to ride on a Shetland pony called Honey. Her first pony was a notoriously cheeky Connemara called Adam, with whom she was a member of the Surrey Union branch of the Pony Club – though she spent much of her time getting back on, having been deposited in the middle of a field.
Victoria’s next horse was a four-year-old Irish gelding, Flynn, who came off the boat as green as grass. They grew up together, moving on from Pony Club to the local riding club, affiliating with British Eventing and competing up to BE100. They were part of their school riding team, taking part in NSEA showjumping and arena eventing competitions, and in 2010 their team were Surrey county champions in their class. On graduating from the University of Exeter in 2014 with a BA in geography, Victoria spent her spare time enjoying plenty of hunting with Flynn, until his recent retirement.
