Gemma Tattersall crowned British Open champion at Gatcombe
Time proved influential at Gatcombe, as usual, with fast cross-country rounds causing a shake-up of the leader board
Event Rider Masters
The Event Rider Masters (ERM) is an exciting and innovative eventing series, which was introduced in 2016 when it ran across six three-star events in Britain.
The series returns once more for 2019, running across six four-star (formerly three-star) events, including new venues at Millstreet in Ireland and Lignières en Berry in France, which will be the final venue in this year’s series. Legs will not be being held at Barbury or Blair this season, leaving Chatsworth as the single UK host of the series.
The series will retain its subtly adjusted CIC3* format running across two-days to make it more appealing to a TV audience.
Each class will admit 40 starters, based on world rankings, plus up to two wild cards for past Olympic gold medallists, four-star winners and riders from emerging nations.
The dressage phase takes place on the first day. It is seeded and set to the rider’s choice of music. The following day the showjumping takes place in reverse order of merit, followed by the cross-country, with the top 20 competitors riding in reverse order.
After riding their cross-country rounds, the highest placed riders take to a podium, which changes as the competition unfold. A F1-style prize giving then takes place at the finish immediately after the cross-country.
The UK ERM leg is worth £50,000, while each European leg offers €57,000. There is an additional £50,000 series bonus to the overall winner.
